IN DEMAND Recruitment & Consulting Inc. is currently recruiting for a NATIONAL DIRECTOR, MORTGAGE UNDERWRITING for our Winnipeg, MB client.

Reporting to the Managing Director, Winnipeg, the National Director, Mortgage Underwriting will be the architect that builds and manages a team of analysts focusing on delivering high quality loan underwriting and financial reporting to our client’s across Canada with estimated volumes of $3 billion annually.

This position will liaise with the Director of Mortgage Underwriting in each office to facilitate all deal structuring and underwriting, and will coordinate the work flow within their analyst team. The National Director will also be responsible to hire, train and mentor analysts to develop their best in class underwriting team.

Manage the work flow in the underwriting pool and ensure that the appropriate loan structures are in place.

Establish market-leading turnaround timelines and underwriting criteria.

Build and develop the initial mortgage analyst team and be involved in the identification, recruiting and onboarding of new employees, on an ongoing basis.

Establish a culture of excellence amongst the analyst team.

Establish training, mentorship and onboarding infrastructure for analysts.

Strong reference and support to help brokers with deal structuring fundamentals.

Maintain a strong understanding of the current Canadian lending environment and develop a strong rapport with lending counterparties.

Continually review, improve, and develop underwriting templates and processes.

Assist in the creation and roll out of new technology tools relating to underwriting, processes, and research.

Develop and implement a strategy for capturing all relevant market data and market research, for dissemination and use by analysts and brokers;

Bachelor of Commerce Degree, B.Comm (Major in Finance an asset); MBA preferred.

A minimum of 5 years’ commercial real estate industry experience.

Direct experience in commercial real estate valuation or credit approval is an asset.

Keen sense of organization, planning, and prioritizing: uses structured work flow methods, establishes priorities, sets deadlines, and manages time effectively.

Superior communication skills (written and verbal) and acute attention to detail; must prepare clean and coherent Loan Summaries and other required documentation.

Background in creating workflow procedures and identifying best practices for the business process.

Ability to build a marketing package that is appealing to the lender and exhibits necessary items in a cohesive way.

Must possess strong technology skills in the Microsoft Office suite, as well as comfort in learning, using, and deploying new applications.

Ability to apply analytical and critical thinking skills under pressure.

Expert level of knowledge in real estate financial modelling.

Knowledge in Loan Funding, is considered an asset

Past management experience required.

Proven leader in a team based environment
