IN DEMAND Recruitment & Consulting Inc. is currently recruiting for a CONTRACT HUMAN RESOURCES MANAGER for our Edmonton, AB client.


This role will include the following and may or may not be limited to:

Plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate the operations of human resources or personnel departments within the organization. This will include:

Review existing employment practices to ensure minimum compliances are in place for;

Personal Information Protection Act

The required information has been obtained from employees, security of info collected

Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulations & Code

Forms, documentation and processes are in place

Employment Standards Code & Regulations

Processes and practices align with Employment Standards

Human Rights Act

Processes and practices, written/print documents align with Human Rights

Worker’s Compensation Act

Forms and processes are in place

Ask questions and clarify practices/terms and conditions of employment

Employee Records:

Review what information has been collected from employee

Determine information that needs to be acquired

Develop a strategy for internal resource to acquire information

Create employee files content checklist for internal resource

Files are maintained corrected and safely secured

Payroll/HRMS/Time Capture:

Research options to address payroll, HRMS and Time Tracking needs

Contact service providers; product capabilities and compatibility with QuickBooks costing

Job Descriptions:

Review content, make recommendation if applicable, prior approval required to make modifications

Policies and Procedure Manual:

Review P&P manual, make recommendation as required, approval required prior to policy development

Employee Handbook:

Content will be derived from existing/new policies and employee “need to know” items

Employee and Management Tools:

Tool development to support HR policies, procedures and processes

Benefit Review:

Review current benefits, make recommendations if applicable

Prior approval required to research and source alternative options

HR Framework: Recruitment, Selection, Orientation, Onboarding, Terms & Conditions of Employment, Compensation, Benefits, Employee Relations, Performance Management, Health & Safety:

Co-ordinate training and recruitment activities

Topic and Time spent to be recorded for remuneration

Provide overview of the HR function to internal resource

Provide an understanding of the Employee and Employer responsibility of the HR Function

Train internal resource on forms, documentation, etc.

Be available for questions/inquires

Job Analysis:

Support the development of Job Manuals

Plan human resource requirements in conjunction with other departmental managers if needed

Manage employee onboarding and orientation process

Identify organizational needs for the purpose of defining and delivering HR strategies

Advise and assist other departmental managers on interpretation and administration of personnel policies and programs

Support supervisors and managers in employee coaching, disciplinary actions, terminations and investigations to assure fairness, consistency and adherence to Company culture and policy

Ensure compliance with all required legislation such as the Alberta Labor Standards


Post-secondary education in Human Resources and/or Business

A CPHR or working towards the designation is preferred

Working knowledge of Canadian employment standards legislation and progressive HR policies and practices

Strong business acumen with the ability to assess situations not only from an HR perspective but also from a business perspective

Highly proactive and has demonstrated an ability to make things happen

Analytical with strong problem solving skills and a simple practical approach

A self-motivated individual who can operate autonomously but also as part of a team

Demonstrated superior communication skills, conflict resolution skills, tact, diplomacy and confidentiality

The ability to build trust and work effectively with employees at all levels in the organization

Experience with accounting software (Quickbooks, ADP, Sage 50, etc.)

Excellent Microsoft Office skills (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
