IN DEMAND Recruitment & Consulting Inc. is currently recruiting for an INTERMEDIATE LEVEL HUMAN RESOURCES ADVISOR for our Brantford, ON client.
The Human Resource Advisor will act as a strategic business partner who provides advice and counsel to management and staff on a wide variety of human resources related issues. The successful candidate will be accountable for a wide-range of subject matter including but not limited to:
Strong Leadership – Assess, Coach and Drive the Production Team (10 people) – Provide managers and employees with generalist human resources services and technical leadership and guidance as required
Participate in the development and implementation of HR initiatives, policies, procedures and programs to ensure compliance with existing regulations (Employment Standards, Labour Relations, Human Rights, Pay Equity, Accessibility for Ontarians with Disability Act, etc.)
Provide management with coaching and support in the areas of retention, performance management and salary administration; to improve work relationships and maintain/retain an engaged workforce
Seek periodic feedback from client groups and facilitate, coach and mentor individuals and groups to improve performance.
Recruitment & Selection – Provide full cycle recruitment and selection support to designated client groups
Work in collaboration with hiring managers to evaluate position requirements and define specific roles and responsibilities
Select appropriate/effective recruitment methods allowing for adequate exposure of job postings
Gather and screen applicant resume submissions
Facilitate screening interviews, schedule and facilitate interviews with department managers etc.
Ensure the integrity of the recruitment process
Conduct reference and employment verification review, verifying previous experience and educational requirements
Negotiate terms of hire, prepare offer of employment
Facilitate on-boarding orientation
Employee/Labour Relations and Employment Legislation Standards (Ontario) – Provide guidance to supervisory/management staff in terms of labour and employee relations, performance or disciplinary issues for both unionized and non-unionized locations, mitigating the risks of litigation
Support management in the application of the Collective Bargaining Agreements for four (4) Hamilton locations
Champion the grievance process through each step up to and including arbitration if required
Lead or support workplace investigations (workplace harassment, violence etc.)
Assess developmental needs for local supervisor/manager level staff and current practices optimizing employee engagement
Facilitate exit interview process
Training & Development and compensation.
Performance Management – this would be have guidance / support if needed.
Safety Administration – entering Data with Base knowledge.
Ensure compliance with all required legislation such as the Ontario Labor Standards

Post-secondary education in Human Resources and/or Business
A CPHR or working towards the designation is preferred
Minimum of five (5) years demonstrated experience as a HR Generalist
Highly motivated, self-starter, requiring little direction
Strong communication, consultative, interpersonal and relationship management skills
Strong knowledge of, and the ability to interpret and apply applicable Legislation, Collective Agreements and Company Policies
Excellent organizational and prioritization skills with the ability to multi-task in a fast paced deadline driven environment
Must be detail oriented ensuring a high level of accuracy
Ability to be persistent ensuring issues are dealt with promptly and information is communicated effectively
Mature conflict resolution and facilitation skills
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Strong organizational development experience
Exceptional integrity with the ability to maintain confidentiality and manage highly sensitive information
Willing and able to travel in order to effectively support assigned client groups (may include cross border travel)
Experience working in a waste management/transportation/construction or manufacturing environment is preferred but not required.
Working knowledge of Canadian employment standards legislation and progressive HR policies and practices
Strong business acumen with the ability to assess situations not only from an HR perspective but also from a business perspective
Highly proactive and has demonstrated an ability to make things happen
Analytical with strong problem solving skills and a simple practical approach
A self-motivated individual who can operate autonomously but also as part of a team
Demonstrated superior communication skills, conflict resolution skills, tact, diplomacy and confidentiality
The ability to build trust and work effectively with employees at all levels in the organization
Excellent Microsoft Office skills (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
