As the Business Service Innovation Specialist you will be responsible for initiating, advising and leading opportunities to advance the competitiveness and overall sustainability of our client’s organization through expanding/improving service offerings for our clients’ customers, enhancing revenue streams, strengthening our client’s brand/reputation and increasing the efficiency of our client’s operations. Service areas span utilities, employee benefits and pension programs, commercial property and casualty insurance, and aggregate purchasing programs for municipalities and non-profit organizations.
As a collaborative change agent, you will scout for ideas then move them through the process of research and analysis, proof of concept/business case, development, implementation and evaluation.
You will work with the Executive Team to establish innovation targets, develop innovation strategies and integrate into business planning processes and operational procedures and practices.
Provide or coordinate the provision of training to management and staff to build an innovation culture.
Scout ideas for innovation opportunities:
Create mechanisms to solicit input from staff and service providers.
Monitor industry trends, actions by competitors, and client feedback; and
Analyze businesses processes to determine opportunities to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
Provide a high level assessment of the viability/merit of the idea.
Prepare and submit proposal for innovation projects, outlining the objectives, project and people plan and budget.
Manage the project through its life cycle through acquiring any required contractors or internal staff, managing the budget and providing regular progress reports to management:
Research and analyze possible approaches.
Lead any required proof of concept or pilot/testing with clients.
Prepare business case for initiatives that will require significant resources and/or major changes to service delivery systems and processes.
Develop or oversee the development of new services or improvement initiatives.
Ensure required staff training.
Coordinate client communication; and
Launch the new service or improvement initiative.
Conduct a post-implementation evaluation of actual results against objectives and share learnings and opportunities for improvement.
Prepare briefings, decision requests and reports to the Board, management team, service partners and clients on innovation initiatives.
Perform other duties as required.
Degree in Business Administration, Commerce or related field.
Project Management Professional (PMP) designation is an asset.
5 years of progressive experience with an emphasis on research and development, business development, business facilitation, and change management.
Experience in full cycle development of product and service offerings, including opportunity identification, design and development, launch and implementation is an asset.
Facilitation experience is an asset.
Experience in the utilities, insurance, employee benefits or pension sectors is an asset.
Experience in a municipal, association and/or non-profit environment is an asset.
Strategic thinker with the ability to carry out research and analysis and exercise good judgement to solve problems.
Highly organized team player with a positive and get it done attitude.
Proven ability to develop and maintain effective and collaborative relationships.
Strong project management skills with the ability to be a hands on do-er for some projects while leading work teams of colleagues for larger projects.
Strong initiative and ability to work independently with minimal supervision to meet deadlines and work concurrently on a variety of projects.
Curious, open to new ideas and passionate about learning; including exploring new areas of potential opportunity.
Business acumen, including understanding of business practices and ability to prepare and/or assess business cases.
Strong communication skills – oral, written and presentation.
Highly competent computer skills (Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, project management).
