IN DEMAND Recruitment & Consulting Inc. is currently looking to hire a PRODUCTION SUPERVISOR for our Edmonton, Alberta client.
Our client, located in South Edmonton requires a Production Supervisor for their organization. The primary objective of this position is to ensure the organized, efficient, safe and cost effective operation of the manufacturing process. The supervisor will work directly with owners in regards to manufacturing policy. This policy includes job costing, production guidelines, operational policies, human resources policy and employee development. The supervisor is responsible to work with the owners on long term and short term manufacturing objectives and is responsible for the improvement of production through the guidelines of manufacturing and company policy. The supervisor is also to work on the shop floor in all aspects of the manufacturing process and rental feet requirements. Can’t be afraid to get dirty or be under a trailer. Must be able to communicate with shop/management, etc., on their level. Organize and complete paperwork.
Must be able to make decisions.
Reporting directly to the owners.
Understand 150 and our 49’s.
Responsible for the organized, efficient, safe and cost effective operation of the manufacturing process.
For all work scheduling and monitoring of same.
Must thrive on being between the shop and management.
Validate and ensure accuracy of all blueprints.
Maintenance of Safety Manual, Production Manual, HR Policy Manual.
Supervision, training and motivation of production employees.
Monitoring and evaluation of employee productivity.
Must understand work flow and how it can be managed for efficiency and profit.
Quality control in continuous improvement.
Maintenance and use of all shop tools.
Maintaining stock of raw materials
Implementation and adherence to job costing system.
Scheduling of rental returns, cleanup and delivery.
Maintain a strong “team” working relationship with employees and ensuring a high level of employee morale and company/job respect.
Become familiar with the Part 10 section of the Alberta Building Codes.
Must be able to accept and bring ideas in to the shop.
Read, understand and validate blueprints and layouts.
Hands-on production work as follows: framing, finishing, exterior cladding, cabinet manufacturing, electrical, supervise steel fitting and welding process.
Understand work flow patterns and practices.
Capable of improving quality.
Work with the lead hand on a daily basis on scheduling, safety and production.
Evaluate and confirm window and door rough openings, fixture and appliance placement to ensure proper layout in physical terms.
Operate Crane and all shop equipment.
Preparation of production work schedules and monitoring.
Requisitioning of raw materials and supplies on a timely basis.
Supervision of shop employees, work habits, productivity, quality, coach, motivate and assist with problems.
Conduct quality inspections at key stages and at completion as per quality control checklist.
Supervise shipping and receiving process.
Daily housekeeping inspections.
Oversee the use of all tools and equipment including trucks servicing and maintenance.
Recommend to Owner/Manager shop improvement methods and production process techniques.
Recommend to Owner/Manager revisions/additions to safety manual, HR policy manual, quality control inspection frequency and inspection checklist.
Conducted safety “Job Box Talks”.
Oversee the maintenance of accurate job costing process and report as required.
Assist Owner/Manager with the hiring of new employees.
Orientate all new production employees.
Productivity/Shop Operations reporting to Owner/Manager as required (on a scheduled basis).
To be considered for the Production Supervisor role, you must have 6 or more years previous management experience in a manufacturing environment, with proven personal leadership abilities.
Ideally in Construction.
In addition, the candidate will:
Have effective leadership skills, with a strong focus on production and business processes
Be able to identify key issues and creatively and strategically overcome internal challenges or obstacles
Have a well-defined sense of diplomacy with solid negotiation, conflict resolution, and people management skills
Have experience successfully leading and facilitating improvement
Ability to read blue prints
Identify and validate current best practice in all areas of operations in order to determine the operation performance and set direction for improvement activities
Experience with ISO 9001 – 9008 would be a real asset
Be self motivated with a high degree of ownership and accountability for results
Have a demonstrated track record of delivering business results in a structured manner
Have a high level of change management skill, with demonstrated implementation experience
Be able to understand the perspectives of others & discern their needs/concerns
Have a demonstrated track record of successfully leading and managing others
Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office software, particularly Excel is a must
Salary is to be negotiated based on experience.
