IN DEMAND Recruitment & Consulting Inc. is currently recruiting for an OPERATIONS MANAGER for our commercial waste, recycling collection and processing client in Edmonton, AB.
We have an immediate need for an experienced Operations Manager to join our clients who bring over 20 years of experience in commercial waste, recycling, and organics collection and processing. They’ve established and implemented successful waste diversion and collection programs for everything from multinationals through local businesses and municipalities alike.
This role reports directly to the Owner/CEO.
The responsibilities of the Operations Manager are numerous. Most simply, the operations manager must coordinate the operators, equipment, and equipment mechanics to perform the duty of collections for our Clients in a safe, fair and reliable manner.
These responsibilities will therefore entail all aspects of operator management: hiring, training, coaching, supporting, disciplining, and firing if necessary. In regards to the equipment, these responsibilities will mean being intimately familiar with each unit under an Operations
Manager’s hand including the ticks and nuances of each truck, as well as their proper operation, their limitations, their strengths and weaknesses, and all aspects of necessary preventive maintenance.
Finally, an Operations Manager must support his Mechanics who are tasked with the repair and maintenance of the equipment and do require a pair of helping hands now and again in the Shop as well as support on parts, support on communicating preventative maintenance and proper operation methods to operators; and finally, service and repair scheduling.
In regards to the Safety Program in particular, the Responsibilities of the Operations Manager are as follows:

➢ Provision of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
➢ Provision of First Aid
➢ Performance appraisals
➢ Workplace inspections
➢ Claims management
➢ Claim cost analysis
➢ Setting a Good Example
The performance of managers on the above duties will form an integral part of the manager’s performance review. Some of these duties may be undertaken in collaboration with a Safety background.
7+ years Operations Management experience
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution would be considered an asset.
Proven strategic planning skills.
Ability to work independently with a highly proactive work style.
Ability to partner across all levels and functional areas of the organization to ensure customer needs are met.
Excellent communication skills (both oral and written).
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
Ability to write reports and business correspondence.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from customers.
Ability to resolve customer issues.
Strong interpersonal skills.
7+ years Operations Management experience.
5-10 years’ experience selling Heavy Equipment Rental, Water Trucks, Bed Trucks, Pipe Hauling Trucks type products.
- If one person is hired: Hours of operations are from Monday – Friday 7:00 am – 6:00 pm and Saturday 8:00 am – 6:00 pm and must be available via telephone and physical. You will be required to work a 60 – 70 hour work.
- If two person are hired: Hours of operation are from Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday from 7:00 am – 6:00 pm for one Operation Manager and then Thursday, Friday & Saturday from 7:00 am – 6:00 pm for another Operation Manager.
