IN DEMAND Recruitment & Consulting Inc. is currently recruiting an OPERATIONS MANAGER for our Beaumont, TX client.

As a key member of the plant leadership team, the Operations Manager is accountable for managing the Production and Maintenance departments at the facility, meeting production goals, and participating in the day-to-day operation of the plant. This position provides the direction that will enable these goals to be met or exceeded by balancing the key priorities for Safety, Environmental and Production. Incumbent is a driving force in the continuous improvement of SHE and manufacturing performance.

Company is a leading supplier of sulfur dioxide and related derivatives used in water treatment and other applications. The Company manufactures sulfur dioxide and downstream derivatives such as, sodium bisulfite, sodium metabisulfite and sodium thiosulfate and serves markets in North and South America. Its products are used in industrial water treatment applications as well as other specialty applications in mining, personal care, pulp and paper processing, food preservation, and oilfield production.


This position requires that the incumbent commit to learning, following, and practicing the Companies 20 Principals of Process and Behavioral Safety and the Company Group Lifesaving Rules on a daily basis, as they apply to the position. These Principals and Rules are posted within each Company facility.

Lead the SO2 manufacturing activities to deliver Safety, Health, and Environmental performance, in line with overall business strategy.

Provide leadership to the manufacturing assets of site.

Develop, agree, and drive the delivery of SHE improvements in line with business needs overall business strategy.

Ensure the site meets country legislation targets and maintains its license to operate.

Ensure the Operations and Maintenance departments comply with Process Safety Management System.

Conduct or participate in investigations of all safety, environmental, and procedure incidents in a timely manner, in compliance with applicable regulations and company policies.

Ensure all activities under direct supervision of this position are carried out in full compliance with applicable safety and environmental laws and regulations.

Deliver the EBITDA and budget production volumes and quality requirements by strong leadership of the management of the production team and their direct reports.

Ensure delivery of annual production volumes budget for the business in a fast moving, changing market

Robust monitoring of volumes against targets

Develop, agree, and deliver improvement programs for volume increases and Operations cost reductions.

Review product orders and schedules to determine appropriate production of products in priority.

Manage the day-to-day operation of all units including scheduling of manpower, troubleshooting and repair of operating issues, determination of priorities, and setting the operational direction of the plant’s daily operations.

Ensure team efforts to resolve reliability issues, including regular participation on teams.

Oversee and administer the operator training program.

Assist with Union issues ensuring personnel are working within Union contract guidelines.

Develop, agree, and deliver the capital programs, ensuring that project priority, cost, and time scale, is in line with agreed business objectives.

Identify capital investment requirements for asset replacement, enhancement.

Identify capital investment requirements to meet business objectives.

Deliver capital investment programs on budget and on program.

Control operation and maintenance spending to meet budget.

Provide input to the capital project program such as setting priorities, submitting projects, and working with other personnel on implementation and startup.

Develop direct reports to ensure manufacturing teams have the capability to deliver the change required to meet the overall business strategy.

Provide leadership ensuring goals are met Ensure management team have skills necessary to facilitate change.

Ensure operational staff have defined and validated level of competency.

Manage robust communication process.

Manage and develop department employees by providing training, coaching, and counseling through routine assignments.

Agree and deliver agreed fixed cost targets, including identifying and delivering cost reductions.

Agree annual fixed cost budgets including headcounts.

Ensure no overspending and reduce quality issues.

Identify and implement fixed cost reductions.

Provide input to the capital project program such as setting priorities, submitting projects, and working with other personnel on implementation and startup.

Identify and ensure delivery of improvement and maintenance opportunities and synergies to enhance overall production and quality performance competitiveness within the plant.

Robust reporting and optimization data

Auditing schedule to ensure compliance.

Share best practice opportunities.

Knowledge of market competitiveness

Direct Maintenance department’s efforts concerning operational equipment issues resulting in plant downtime.

Work closely with Maintenance and Production departments in conducting “Root Cause Analysis” of equipment failures and in implementing changes to reduce them.

Lead and direct Warehouse operations to ensure accurate inventories and safe material handling procedures.


Bachelor’s of Science degree in Engineering (ChE preferred)

10+ years’ experience in an industrial environment

Strongly prefer experience relevant to sulfur derivatives such as sulfuric acid, sulfur dioxide, hydrogen sulfide, sulfonation processes, Claus processes, and related industry such as chemical manufacturing, mining, water treatment, etc.

Must have at least 3 years’ supervisory management experience in plant operations

Must be able to provide support as required for a manufacturing facility operating 24/7/365, including weekends and holidays; must be able to provide scheduled periodic and occasional on-call support.

Competent in the use of Microsoft and Adobe software and the ability to develop competency in the use of additional software applications as may be required.

Ability to correctly interpret and apply SHE laws and industry regulations.
