IN DEMAND Recruitment & Consulting Inc. is currently recruiting a LOGISTICS MANAGER for our Winnipeg, MB client.
• The Logistics Manager oversees the efficient flow of goods, services, and information within a supply chain, ensuring timely delivery and cost-effective operations.
• Their responsibilities include planning and coordinating transportation, warehousing, inventory management, and order fulfillment while optimizing processes to meet business objectives.
• They collaborate with suppliers, manufacturers, and distributors to streamline operations, resolve logistical challenges, and maintain compliance with regulations.
• The Logistics Manager also monitors budgets, analyzes performance metrics, and implements strategies to enhance efficiency and customer satisfaction.
• The Logistics Manager reports to the Trading Manager and oversees a team of Logistics Coordinators based in Winnipeg and overseas. This role involves close coordination with various departments, including Logistics, Procurement, Finance, Pulses Trade and Execution, Management, Operations, and Human Resources. The Logistics Manager ensures seamless communication and collaboration across these functions to optimize supply chain efficiency and support the organization’s strategic objectives.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES*
Strategy/Planning
• Take the lead on strategizing and planning of the logistics and trade operations in Canada.
• Should prepare the annual/ half yearly/ quarterly and monthly plan for the logistics operations to achieve efficiency in terms of time and cost involved.
• Communicate effectively with rail, road, and ocean freight service providers to outline shipment requirements and negotiate shipping rates with carriers to optimize transportation processes and progressively reduce freight costs.
• Review all available transportation methods for moving products from origin to destination and recommend the best, most cost-effective solutions to the trade team.
• Develop effective business relationships with government regulatory agencies and strategic partners including freight forwarders, shipping lines, trans loaders, and railways. Relay appropriate market information and forecasts to internal stakeholders, and where applicable, recommend contract rates to lock in freight costs.
• Determine logistics requirements and align team resources to meet contracts and specifications, ensuring a well-trained and capable team.
• Ensure the shipping planner for country facilities is kept up to date to communicate shipping requirements up to four weeks in advance.
• Ensure logistics coordinators are trained on contract pricing to allow them to recommend opportunities to leverage contract tolerance for the benefit of our client.
Execution
• Should be responsible for effective execution of the strategy and plans which were formulated:
o Execution of trades by effective Communication with current shipping positions, requirements, and schedules to buyers and the Canadian and overseas trade teams as needed.
o Proactively provide recommendations to adjust or divert shipments as needed, based on quality, timeline, or agreed-upon requests.
o Negotiate and renegotiate rates with the service providers as and when required.
o Align Documentation team and trading team in terms of existing situations and provide daily and weekly updates
o Monitor transloading/ Rail car/ site inventory and link effective trade flows at minimum cost and maximum efficiency.
o Work closely with the trade and finance teams to ensure the timely issuance and processing of invoicing and payments.
o Complete and submit required internal reports within stipulated timelines.
o Ensure contracts are closed in a timely manner.
Review
• Evaluate and bring in innovation to the table:
• Periodic review with team internally and externally to evaluate targets Vs achievements in terms of cost, timely execution
• Bring in ideas to solve perennial problems, innovative thinking to reduce operational costs
• Overall team lead, responsible for carrying out the business operations both at macro and micro levels and flexible to adapt to the ever-changing logistics environment.
Safety
• Participate in safety meetings and training as required.
• Communicate, document, and control hazards, as instructed.
• Report all incidents to the Safety Representative.
• Only conduct tasks on which instruction and training have been provided
• Always wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) on the production floor and/or as directed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Post-secondary education from a recognized institution in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or related discipline.
• Minimum of 5 years’ prior experience handling export documents, letters of credit, cash against documents (CAD), logistics, global shipping, Incoterms, and supply chain procedures, preferably in the agri-commodities industry.
• Prior experience developing, leading, and managing a team and supervising employees.
• Advanced Microsoft Office skills including extensive experience using Excel.
• Experience using customer relationship management (CRM) software and/or prior experience using SalesForce is an asset.
• The ability to delegate and manage conflicting priorities.
• Proven ability to foster effective interpersonal relationships within a geographically and culturally diverse work setting.
• Ability to use initiative to identify problems and deliver solutions.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills, with a high level of attention to detail.
• Ability to handle confidential information.
