OPERATIONS SUPERINTENDENT, TIMMINS, ON – #5740

IN DEMAND Recruitment & Consulting Inc. is seeking an OPERATIONS SUPERINTENDENT for a client in Timmins, ON.

The Operations Superintendent leads the Timmins site operations, ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient manufacturing. This role oversees Manufacturing, Safety, Quality, HR, and production coordination, driving operational excellence while meeting short- and long-term business goals.

As a core member of the management team, you will balance safety, environmental performance, production, and customer satisfaction to achieve or exceed operational targets.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Operational Leadership

Lead safe, compliant, and efficient operations across all units.

Manage production schedules, ensuring quality standards and on-time delivery.

Oversee SOP compliance, equipment reliability, and process optimization.

Support capital projects, commissioning, and site improvements.

Drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce costs, improve performance, and enhance product quality.

 

  1. Strategic Management

Collaborate with the Asset Manager to develop budgets, forecasts, and strategic objectives.

Define operational strategies and action plans to achieve site goals.

Provide expertise to support corporate initiatives and growth projects.

 

  1. People & Team Development

Lead, coach, and mentor a team of 15 (3 direct reports).

Foster a high-performance, collaborative culture.

Ensure employee training, development, and succession planning are executed.

Manage labor relations, including union interactions, recruitment, and performance management.

 

  1. Cost & Performance Management

Optimize resource utilization to maintain cost leadership.

Track performance metrics, budgets, and CAPEX spending.

Monitor and report operational reliability, process safety, and production efficiency.

 

  1. Compliance & Safety

Ensure adherence to SHE programs, company policies, and regulatory requirements.

Practice and promote Company safety principles daily.

Conduct incident investigations and implement corrective actions.

 

Team Structure:

Direct Reports: Chief Operating Engineer, SHE Coordinator, Customer Service & Office Manager

Total Team: 15 employees

 

Key Relationships:

Internal: Asset Manager, Site Director, Finance, HR, Maintenance, Operations team

External: Customers, Suppliers, Contractors, Regulatory Authorities

 

What We Are Looking For:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science or Engineering preferred, equivalent experience will be considered.
  • 5-10 years supervisory experience in plant operations; 10+ years in high-hazard operations
  • Strong leadership, coaching, and strategic planning skills
  • Financial management and operational excellence experience
  • Knowledge of process safety, root cause analysis, and regulatory compliance
  • Proficiency in Microsoft and Adobe software
  • Behavioral Skills: Strategic thinker, team builder, effective communicator, self-directed, performance-driven, and able to thrive under pressure.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

Light to moderate physical work (up to 20 lbs)

Activities include climbing, standing, walking, lifting, and operating equipment

Exposure to extreme temperatures, noise, chemicals, and elevated work areas

PPE required (respirators, steel-toe shoes, safety glasses, hard hat)

 

Compensation Target : $150,000 – $159,000 per year. (Open to hearing from those outside this range)
