Job Overview:
We are seeking highly skilled and experienced supervisors or experienced, skilled operators who have the ability to supervise the operators and process operations that produce our products. The Shift Supervisor role involves building and leading cohesive teams that will conduct plant operations in a manner that ensures site and community safety, meets or exceeds environmental compliance, and meets business objectives. This will be a team-centered operation and personnel working in a collaborative manner will provide the best means for plant safety and business success.
Shift Supervisor is expected to possess hands on knowledge of common chemical plant machineries viz pumps, compressors, boiler, heat exchangers etc. He/ She must have strong technical capability to understand the root cause of plant problem and advise corrective action to the operators.
Shift Supervisors will train, develop and supervise Process Operators as they perform their work. Shift Supervisors are both a supervisory link between plant management and plant personnel as well as the key leader on each shift to assess operator skills and conduct or recommend training to improve operator process knowledge and understanding. Shift supervisors will provide training, support and monitoring that gains operator understanding and conformity to process procedures and plant methods.
Shift Supervisors will support plant maintenance and contractor efforts by assisting in determining plant maintenance priorities. Shift Supervisors will determine when and how Operators will support maintenance efforts via autonomous maintenance. Shift Supervisors additionally support plant maintenance and contractor efforts through the preparation of safe work, hot work and confined space permits.
The plant operates continuously (24/7) and requires staffing to accommodate the schedule.
Key Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
Lead an Operations shift team to conduct process operations as a collaborative effort. Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement within the Operations unit as well as with your assigned shift of Operators.
Support maintenance and contractor personnel and plant technical staff in maintaining and improving plant operations and efficiency.
Monitor plant conditions and supervise the performance of personnel to verify compliance with operating and plant procedures. Utilize supervisory skills and insights to ensure workplace safety via adherence to site safety policies, guidelines and procedures.
Ensure protection of the community and the environment by meeting or exceeding environmental compliance requirements. Support and complement the training for site programs for health, safety and environmental compliance via supportive training for operations personnel.
Support and verify effectiveness of training provided so as to meet or exceed compliance for local, state and federal health, safety and environmental compliance. Provide supplemental operator training as needed to meet the plant objectives.
Ensure plant operators can operate chemical and utility process equipment with proficiency and consistency.
Apply your experience and supervisory skills to recognize operational improvement opportunities. Review opportunities with operators for full understanding of issues and bring such opportunities forward to management for review and approval to implement.
Apply observation and troubleshooting methods to determine mechanical versus operational issues. Bring mechanical issues to maintenance supervision for planning and resolution. Assist in setting repair priorities.
Prepare and train for site emergency response situations to preserve and protect personnel and plant assets.
Utilize basic computer skills to document activities performed, control process operation, provide daily logs of process difficulties and descriptions of problems incurred and/or resolved during the work shift.
Support plant operations by assisting in the principle of autonomous maintenance. Assign operator work to perform or assist in performing minor maintenance or support of maintenance personnel in accordance with plant procedures and training.
Qualifications and skills:
Minimum: High School Diploma. Associate or Bachelor’s degree is a Plus. Prior supervisory experience is desired. Mechanical craft training is a Plus.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in chemical process operation, power plant operation, or hazardous material experience required.
Excellent leadership, communication, and inter-personal skills are required for a Shift Supervisor’s position.
Excellent troubleshooting, problem-solving skills and decision-making skills are needed for Shift Supervisor positions.
Sound understanding of and the ability to properly apply various health, safety and environmental regulations is required.
Shift Supervisor positions require the ability to work rotating shift schedules.
Physical Demands

Vision & Hearing: Adequate for reading gauges and detecting alarms.
Respirator Use: Must pass fit test and medical evaluation.
Manual Dexterity & Stamina: Frequent use of hands; tolerate extended shift work.
Shift Work: Ability to maintain alertness working any rotating shift schedule, as may be required.
Work Environment
Mix of control room and field work, frequent transitions in and out of trailers via steps; active process areas with hot surfaces and moving equipment; strict adherence to safety and PSM.
