A global fine chemical processing leader is seeking a hands-on, technically strong Shift Supervisor to lead plant operations at its Proctor, WV facility. This is not a passive supervisory role—this position requires a strategic thinker and decisive troubleshooter who can lead from the front and drive operational excellence in a 24/7 manufacturing environment.

24/7 plant operations with rotating shift schedule

Compensation target: $120,000 – $135,000/year

 

Key Responsibilities

Operations Leadership

  • Lead a shift team to execute plant operations safely, efficiently, and collaboratively
  • Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement
  • Monitor plant conditions and ensure adherence to operating procedures and safety protocols

Technical Troubleshooting & Problem Solving

  • Diagnose and resolve operational issues, distinguishing between mechanical and process-related problems
  • Provide real-time guidance to operators on corrective actions
  • Identify improvement opportunities and escalate recommendations to management

Training & Team Development

  • Train, coach, and develop Process Operators to improve technical capability and consistency
  • Assess operator performance and identify skill gaps
  • Reinforce adherence to procedures and plant standards

Maintenance & Coordination

  • Support maintenance and contractor activities by helping prioritize work and allocate operator support
  • Assist with autonomous maintenance activities
  • Prepare and oversee permits (safe work, hot work, confined space)

Safety, Environmental & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations
  • Support and reinforce site training programs
  • Lead emergency preparedness and response readiness

Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate shift logs, including operational issues and resolutions
  • Utilize computer systems to monitor and control process operations

Qualifications & Experience

  • High School Diploma required; Associate or Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in:
    • Chemical processing
    • Power generation
    • Hazardous materials operations
  • Prior supervisory experience preferred
  • Strong troubleshooting, decision-making, and problem-solving skills
  • Solid understanding of health, safety, and environmental regulations
  • Strong communication and leadership skills
  • Mechanical aptitude (pumps, compressors, boilers, heat exchangers)

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • 24/7 plant operations with rotating shift schedule
  • Combination of control room and field work
  • Exposure to:
    • Extreme weather conditions
    • Noise, chemicals, vapors
    • Active industrial equipment
  • Physical requirements include:
    • Walking, standing, climbing ladders/stairs
    • Lifting up to 50 lbs
    • Use of PPE including respirators (fit test required)
