The Opportunity

An established North American provider of specialized municipal and public works equipment is seeking a Regional Sales Manager to lead sales across a key South Central Ontario territory. This field-based role owns the full sales cycle for a portfolio of specialized equipment used by municipalities and public works operations, with a mandate to grow market share and develop long-term customer relationships.

The successful candidate will combine outside sales experience, technical aptitude, and knowledge of municipal customers and procurement processes. This is an opportunity to take ownership of an established geographic territory while building new business across a highly specialized equipment market.

 

Who Will Succeed in This Role

You’re a self-directed, relationship-driven sales professional who is comfortable spending most of your time in the field. You understand how municipalities buy, can navigate public tenders and longer sales cycles, and are credible discussing equipment applications with public works and operational teams.

Experience selling heavy equipment, vocational trucks, municipal equipment, industrial equipment, or adjacent solutions will translate particularly well.

  • $100,000 guarantee for 1st year (salary + commission draw) after which compensation will be aligned with the Company’s base salary + uncapped commission plan

Position Details

Territory: South Central Ontario, covering municipalities throughout Northumberland, Peterborough, Kawartha Lakes, Durham, York, Peel, and Dufferin regions

Work Model: Field-based / remote, with customer-site travel and occasional office presence

Position Type: Permanent, Full-Time

 

What You’ll Do

  • Own and manage sales activity throughout the assigned territory, with responsibility for delivering year-over-year growth and increasing market penetration.
  • Develop new business while maintaining and expanding relationships with existing municipal and public-sector accounts.
  • Sell specialized municipal and public works equipment directly to end users, recommending solutions based on specific operational requirements.
  • Manage the full sales cycle, from prospecting and needs assessment through demonstrations, proposals, procurement, closing, and post-sale relationship management.
  • Provide equipment demonstrations, product training, and technical guidance to customers and internal team members as required.
  • Develop a strong understanding of customer applications across public works, road maintenance, environmental services, fleet operations, and related municipal functions.
  • Navigate municipal procurement processes, including public tenders and cooperative purchasing programs.
  • Collaborate with Sales, Parts, Service, and technical teams to ensure customers receive effective pre- and post-sale support.
  • Prepare accurate sales forecasts, activity reports, and territory performance updates.
  • Monitor competitive activity, industry developments, customer requirements, and emerging equipment technologies.
  • Participate in relevant municipal association meetings and industry networking opportunities.
  • Represent the organization at trade shows, conferences, demonstrations, and industry events in Canada and the United States.

 

What We’re Looking For

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of outside sales experience, ideally within heavy equipment, vocational trucks, municipal equipment, industrial equipment, or a related technical sales environment.
  • Demonstrated experience selling to municipalities, public works departments, or similar public-sector customers.
  • Strong technical aptitude with the ability to understand equipment applications and translate operational requirements into appropriate solutions.
  • Familiarity with municipal procurement processes, including public tenders and cooperative purchasing programs such as CANOE.
  • Experience working with CRM systems and maintaining accurate sales pipeline and forecasting information.

 

Education & Certifications

  • Degree or diploma in Business Administration or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Valid driver’s licence with a clean driving record, where required for job duties, or the ability to obtain one.
  • Ability to legally travel throughout Canada and the United States as required.
  • Ability to successfully complete a background check relevant to the position.
  • Eligibility to obtain OMVIC certification.

Travel & Work Environment

This is a highly field-oriented position with up to 90% travel throughout the assigned territory. Occasional travel elsewhere in Canada and the United States will also be required for meetings, training, trade shows, and industry events.

Work will take place across a combination of remote/home-office settings, customer locations, municipal facilities, repair facilities, and occasional company office environments. The position may involve exposure to industrial environments, moving equipment, noise, and varying outdoor weather conditions.
