IN DEMAND Recruitment & Consulting Inc. is seeking an ELECTRICAL DESIGN & ROBOT PROGRAMMING TECHNICIAN for our client in Richmond Hill, ON.

The Opportunity

Our client is an established manufacturer and integrator of industrial automation equipment, delivering sophisticated automated systems to customers across North America and internationally.

They are looking for an experienced Electrical Design & Robot Programming Technician to join their engineering team and take ownership of controls and automation projects from design and programming through commissioning and customer support.

Permanent | Full Time | On Site

Typical Business Hours – Occasional evenings/weekends as required

Compensation Target: $90k-$115k/year plus a comprehensive employer paid benefits package, as well as HWSA and RRSP match.

You’re a hands-on controls and automation professional who is comfortable working across PLCs, HMIs, robotics, electrical controls, and equipment commissioning. You enjoy solving complex technical problems, working directly with equipment, and seeing your systems come to life in the field.

 

Why This Role?

This is an opportunity to work across the full lifecycle of industrial automation projects, combining electrical design, controls programming, robotics, troubleshooting, and commissioning. You’ll work on technically complex equipment and travel to customer facilities to bring automated systems online.

 

What You Will Do

  • Develop programs for PLCs, HMIs, robotics, sensors, and automation controls.
  • Prepare electrical drawings, bills of materials, and engineering documentation.
  • Participate in preliminary equipment and controls design.
  • Develop, implement, and support robotic systems and related software.
  • Troubleshoot programming, controls, and equipment issues.
  • Provide remote and onsite programming and technical support.
  • Install, integrate, and commission equipment at customer facilities.
  • Participate in equipment safety reviews and customer training.
  • Support hands-on control panel and equipment wiring when required.
  • Research and implement new automation technologies.
  • Develop installation, maintenance, training, and programming documentation.
  • Maintain and improve existing automation software and applications.

Qualifications

  • Electrical or Mechatronics Engineering Degree strongly preferred. Relatable education with highly relevant experience may also be considered.
  • 5+ years of electrical controls design and programming experience.
  • Expert-level AutoCAD experience.
  • Strong experience with robot programming, including RAPID or equivalent languages.
  • Experience with PLC programming, HMIs, robotics, and industrial automation.
  • Electrical Engineering or related technical experience.
  • Strong understanding of engineering principles and Canadian Electrical Standards.
  • Advanced troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organization, attention to detail, and technical decision-making skills.
  • Ability to travel up to 50%, including domestic and international travel.
  • Valid Driver’s Licence and Passport.
  • Ability to work overtime and weekends when required for commissioning and project needs.
