IN DEMAND Recruitment & Consulting Inc. is currently seeking an Instrumentation & Electrical Reliability Engineer for our client, a well-established and highly respected chemical manufacturing organization operating a large-scale continuous process production facility.

This is a critical technical leadership opportunity created as the result of a planned retirement and offers the successful candidate the opportunity to become the site’s primary subject matter expert for instrumentation, controls, electrical systems, and reliability engineering initiatives.

The ideal candidate will possess strong instrumentation, controls, and process automation expertise combined with a solid understanding of electrical power distribution systems and reliability engineering principles. This individual will play a key role in supporting plant reliability, process safety, operational performance, capital projects, and continuous improvement initiatives across the facility.

POSITION OVERVIEW

Reporting into Engineering and Operations Leadership, the Instrumentation & Electrical Reliability Engineer will serve as the facility’s primary technical resource for instrumentation, process controls, electrical distribution systems, and reliability improvement activities.

This highly visible role partners closely with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, Project Teams, Contractors, and Utility Providers to ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of critical manufacturing assets. The successful candidate will lead troubleshooting efforts, support process safety initiatives, drive reliability improvements, and provide technical guidance on instrumentation, controls, and electrical systems throughout the facility.

In addition to supporting plant-wide reliability initiatives, this individual will serve as the primary technical liaison with the local electrical utility provider and play a significant role in supporting capital projects, equipment upgrades, system modernization efforts, and long-term asset management strategies.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Instrumentation, Controls & Reliability Engineering

  • Provide technical leadership and support for instrumentation, controls, and electrical systems throughout the facility
  • Lead troubleshooting and problem-solving efforts involving instrumentation, control systems, electrical equipment, and process automation systems
  • Develop and implement reliability improvement strategies for critical instrumentation and electrical assets
  • Support plant uptime, reliability, and operational performance initiatives
  • Perform Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) investigations and implement corrective actions to eliminate recurring failures
  • Develop reliability-centered maintenance strategies and continuous improvement initiatives

Electrical Systems & Power Distribution

  • Provide technical support for electrical power distribution systems and infrastructure
  • Support equipment including:
    • MCCs (Motor Control Centers)
    • VFDs (Variable Frequency Drives)
    • Motors
    • Transformers
    • Substations
    • UPS Systems
    • Electrical Distribution Equipment
  • Maintain electrical system documentation including:
    • Single-Line Diagrams
    • Electrical Schematics
    • Wiring Diagrams
    • Equipment Records
  • Serve as the primary technical liaison with the local electrical utility provider

Process Safety & Compliance

  • Participate in Process Safety Management (PSM) activities, hazard reviews, and risk assessments
  • Support Management of Change (MOC) processes including documentation updates, programming validation, implementation, and training
  • Ensure compliance with applicable safety, reliability, and regulatory requirements
  • Support Safety Instrumented System (SIS) initiatives and functional safety programs
  • Assist with reliability and process safety audits as required

Capital Projects & Technical Support

  • Support capital projects from concept development through startup and commissioning
  • Review engineering design packages and project documentation to ensure compliance with engineering standards and operational requirements
  • Support Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), commissioning, startup, and project execution activities
  • Coordinate activities with contractors, engineering firms, vendors, utility providers, and internal stakeholders
  • Provide technical support for equipment upgrades, modernization projects, and infrastructure improvements

Maintenance & Continuous Improvement

  • Develop and improve preventative and predictive maintenance programs
  • Maintain critical equipment strategies and reliability metrics
  • Establish and monitor KPIs related to equipment reliability and maintenance effectiveness
  • Support long-term asset management and lifecycle planning initiatives
  • Identify opportunities to improve plant reliability, efficiency, and operational performance

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Minimum 4+ years of experience in Instrumentation, Electrical, or I&E Reliability Engineering within a manufacturing or industrial environment
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • Instrumentation
    • Process Controls
    • Electrical Power Distribution
    • Reliability Engineering Methodologies
  • Experience with:
    • PLCs
    • Control Systems
    • Interlocks
    • Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS)
  • Experience conducting Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA)
  • Ability to read and interpret:
    • P&IDs
    • PFDs
    • Instrument Loop Drawings
    • Electrical Schematics
  • Strong troubleshooting, communication, project management, and organizational skills

Preferred

  • Chemical, Petrochemical, Refining, Polymer, Pulp & Paper, or other Continuous Process Manufacturing experience
  • Experience supporting capital projects from design through startup and commissioning
  • Working knowledge of:
    • ANSI
    • ISA
    • IEC
    • API
    • NFPA
    • NEC Standards
  • Familiarity with IEC 61511, Functional Safety, and Safety Instrumented Systems
  • NFPA 70E Training
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE) designation

SALARY: $160,000 – $190,000 plus 20% bonus potential
