IN DEMAND Recruitment & Consulting Inc. is seeking a PROCESS ENGINEER (Chemical Manufacturing) for a client in Decatur, AL.
Summary / Objective
Provide process engineering support to Production departments by delivering the engineering, analytical, and technical services necessary to support process unit operations and ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective manufacturing performance.
Location : Decatur, AL
Full Time | Permanent: 100% on site
Compensation Package: $86,000 – $107,000/year, plus bonus opportunity and strong benefits package
Typical Duties / Responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day process engineering support to optimize safety, quality, production, and cost performance.
- Monitor process unit operations, troubleshoot issues, and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
- Design, evaluate, and document process improvements, equipment modifications, and new manufacturing processes.
- Support the scale-up of new products from development through commercial production.
- Specify process equipment, instrumentation, and control systems to improve operational performance.
- Lead and support engineering projects, including planning, execution, coordination, and progress reporting.
- Develop operating procedures and provide training to ensure the safe operation of new equipment and processes.
- Partner with Operations, Maintenance, and cross-functional teams to maximize equipment reliability and plant performance.
- Identify and implement cost-saving opportunities while supporting departmental budget objectives.
- Support compliance with PSM, RMP, environmental, and other regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate equipment selection, procurement, and installation with internal stakeholders and external contractors.
- Research and apply new technologies to improve manufacturing efficiency, reliability, and safety.
- Maintain technical knowledge of chemicals, processes, and safe handling practices within assigned production areas.
- Support additional engineering initiatives and departmental priorities as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering required.
- Minimum of 3 years of Process Engineering experience required.
- Distillation process experience within a chemical manufacturing environment is strongly preferred.
- Must have been in current position for a minimum of six (6) months.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Provide technical support to assigned production units through daily monitoring of unit operations.
- Identify opportunities to improve product quality, reduce operating costs, enhance safety, lower emissions, and present technically supported recommendations for implementation.
- Develop, conduct, and evaluate process tests to improve product quality, production capacity, and operating efficiency.
- Develop and maintain technical expertise within assigned process areas.
- Investigate the technical and economic feasibility of implementing new technologies, safety and operability recommendations, and planned capacity expansions.
- Collaborate with production teams to prepare annual control budgets, operating reviews, and economic studies supporting operating programs.
- Provide technical support for PSM, RMP, and other regulatory compliance programs.
- Investigate production, safety, environmental, and quality-related issues.
- Demonstrate the ability to work effectively across Japanese and American cultural environments.

- Ability to climb stairs several times during a shift.
- Good hearing and sense of smell.
- Ability to work effectively in a potentially stressful manufacturing environment.
