THE OPPORTUNITY

IN DEMAND Recruitment & Consulting Inc. is currently seeking Protection & Control (P&C) Field Services Technicians on behalf of our client, a globally recognized engineering and professional services organization supporting critical power infrastructure projects throughout North America.

This is an outstanding opportunity for highly skilled electrical testing and commissioning professionals who enjoy hands-on field work, extensive travel, and working on complex utility, transmission, generation, and substation projects across the United States. You can be based anywhere in the USA.

The successful candidate will play a critical role in the testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, and energization of high-voltage electrical systems while supporting some of the industry’s most technically challenging power infrastructure projects.

POSITION OVERVIEW

Reporting to Project Leadership and Field Supervisors, the P&C Field Services Technician will be responsible for performing protection and control testing, relay commissioning, substation energization activities, and electrical system verification on medium and high-voltage electrical infrastructure projects.

This role requires strong technical expertise in protective relays, substation equipment, testing methodologies, and electrical commissioning practices while maintaining a strong commitment to safety, quality, and operational excellence.

The successful candidate will work extensively in the field supporting utility substations, industrial facilities, generation sites, and transmission projects throughout North America.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Protection & Control Testing

Perform testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting of Protection & Control systems within medium and high-voltage substations

Conduct static and dynamic relay testing on protective relay systems including:

  • SEL
  • GE Multilin
  • Beckwith
  • Basler
  • Similar relay platforms

Verify relay settings, logic schemes, protection coordination, and system functionality

Perform CT/PT verification, polarity checks, control wiring validation, and protection system testing

Support system energization and commissioning activities

High Voltage Equipment Testing

Perform testing and verification of:

  • Circuit Breakers
  • Power Transformers
  • Instrument Transformers
  • Protective Relays
  • Control Panels
  • Switchgear
  • Substation Equipment

Assist with troubleshooting and resolution of electrical system deficiencies identified during testing and commissioning activities

Field Operations & Safety

Lead daily tailgate meetings and Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) reviews

Maintain compliance with company safety programs and industry regulations

Support field logistics, project mobilization, equipment deployment, and site coordination activities

Promote a strong safety-first culture across all project activities

Documentation & Reporting

Prepare detailed field reports, testing documentation, commissioning records, and project closeout packages

Maintain testing equipment calibration records and asset tracking documentation

Utilize digital reporting tools and field service applications to accurately document project activities

Support project turnover documentation and client reporting requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

High School Diploma or equivalent

Minimum 3+ years of experience performing electrical testing and commissioning activities within utility, industrial, generation, or transmission environments

Hands-on experience testing and commissioning:

  • Protective Relays
  • Circuit Breakers
  • Power Transformers
  • Instrument Transformers
  • Protection & Control Systems

Strong experience utilizing testing equipment including:

  • Omicron CMC 256 / 356
  • Doble F6150
  • Similar relay testing platforms

Working knowledge of:

  • SEL Relays
  • GE Multilin Relays
  • Beckwith Relays
  • Basler Relays

Experience utilizing:

  • Omicron Test Universe
  • AcSELerator QuickSet
  • ENOSERV RTS
  • ProTesT
  • Protection Suite

Knowledge of:

  • NETA Standards
  • IEEE Standards
  • NFPA Requirements

Valid Driver’s License and clean driving record

Ability to travel up to 80% throughout North America

Preferred

NETA Certification (Level II, III, or IV)

Electrical Engineering Technology Diploma or related technical education

Utility substation commissioning experience up to 500 kV

Previous experience supporting transmission, distribution, generation, or renewable energy infrastructure projects

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
