ABOUT THE ROLE:

Reporting to Plant Leadership, you will be responsible for leading the site’s Health, Safety & Environmental strategy while ensuring compliance with all corporate, provincial/state, and federal regulations. You will drive the implementation and continuous improvement of HSE programs, influence organizational culture, and work collaboratively with operational leaders to identify, assess, and eliminate workplace risks.

This role requires a proactive leader who can effectively balance strategic planning with hands-on execution, fostering employee engagement while supporting operational excellence.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Champion a proactive safety culture focused on achieving  Zero Incidents through leadership, employee engagement, and continuous improvement.
  • Lead the implementation, maintenance, and ongoing enhancement of all Health, Safety & Environmental programs and initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements, corporate standards, and environmental legislation.
  • Partner with Plant Leadership, managers, and employees to embed HSE best practices throughout the organization.
  • Lead incident investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective action planning to prevent recurrence.
  • Monitor safety performance metrics, identify trends, and develop initiatives to improve overall plant performance.
  • Conduct hazard and environmental aspect assessments while implementing effective risk mitigation strategies.
  • Support capital projects and change management initiatives by providing HSE guidance throughout project planning and execution.
  • Maintain accurate HSE documentation, reporting systems, and regulatory records.
  • Develop and deliver employee training programs that strengthen safety awareness and regulatory compliance.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on reducing waste, improving energy efficiency, and minimizing environmental impact.
  • Collaborate with regional HSE leadership to implement corporate initiatives, achieve strategic objectives, and successfully deploy organizational HSE standards.
QUALIFICATIONS: 
The ideal candidate brings a strong combination of technical HSE expertise, manufacturing experience, and the ability to influence positive cultural change.
REQUIREMENTS: 
  • University degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Proven Health, Safety & Environmental leadership experience within a food manufacturing environment is required.
  • Strong working knowledge of occupational health, safety, and environmental regulations, including OSHA, EPA, DNREC, and other applicable regulatory standards.
  • Experience implementing and maintaining ISO management systems and regulatory compliance programs.
  • Demonstrated experience leading incident investigations, root cause analysis, risk assessments, and corrective action initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of environmental compliance, waste reduction, sustainability initiatives, and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with the ability to influence leaders and employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams, manage multiple priorities, and drive organizational change.
