THE OPPORTUNITY

Our client is seeking a highly skilled Robotics & Automation Specialist to join their growing engineering team. This role is responsible for designing, programming, integrating, and commissioning custom automated machinery and robotic systems for a diverse range of industrial applications.

This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on automation professional who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, working across multiple industries, and taking projects from concept through commissioning. The successful candidate will work closely with mechanical designers, electricians, engineers, and customers to develop innovative automation solutions that improve productivity, efficiency, and operational performance.

POSITION OVERVIEW

Reporting to Engineering Leadership, the Robotics & Automation Specialist will be responsible for supporting the complete automation lifecycle including concept development, electrical design, PLC/HMI programming, robot programming, machine integration, commissioning, troubleshooting, and customer support.

The successful candidate will combine strong technical expertise with practical problem-solving skills and a passion for automation, robotics, and continuous learning.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Automation & Controls Engineering

  • Interpret customer requirements and develop automation concepts, control architectures, and system solutions
  • Design electrical schematics, control systems, and panel layouts for custom automation projects
  • Develop, test, and optimize PLC, HMI, and robot programs
  • Select automation hardware, controls components, and robotic systems appropriate for project requirements
  • Support machine integration, testing, validation, and commissioning activities

Robotics & System Integration

  • Program and integrate industrial robotic systems
  • Configure and troubleshoot PLCs, HMIs, robots, VFDs, vision systems, and automation hardware
  • Support machine startups and customer acceptance testing
  • Troubleshoot automation, controls, and robotic systems in both shop and field environments
  • Optimize system performance and resolve technical issues during commissioning and production support

Project Support & Continuous Improvement

  • Participate in project planning, risk assessments, design reviews, and technical discussions
  • Support quoting and estimating activities for automation and robotics projects
  • Collaborate with engineers, designers, electricians, trades personnel, and customers throughout project execution
  • Troubleshoot industrial networking and communications systems
  • Stay current with emerging technologies, software platforms, and automation hardware advancements

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

Required Qualifications

  • Degree or Diploma in Automation, Controls, Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechatronics, Robotics, or a related discipline
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in industrial automation, controls engineering, electrical design, or robotics programming
  • Experience developing industrial electrical designs and automation systems
  • Hands-on robotic programming and integration experience within a manufacturing or industrial environment
  • Experience utilizing CAD software to create professional electrical drawings and schematics
  • Strong understanding of industrial automation, controls systems, and electrical design principles
  • Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams
  • Self-starter capable of working independently and managing multiple priorities

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience designing automated machinery from concept through commissioning
  • Strong PLC programming experience with Allen Bradley, Siemens, and/or Omron platforms
  • Industrial robot programming experience including ABB, FANUC, KUKA, Universal Robots (UR), or similar platforms
  • Experience with industrial vision systems such as Cognex or Keyence
  • Experience troubleshooting industrial communication networks including Ethernet/IP, DeviceNet, and ControlNet
  • Strong understanding of industrial safety standards and machine control systems
  • Additional certifications or training in Automation, Controls, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or related disciplines

SALARY: $80,000 – $110,000 DOE
