The Opportunity

A growing industrial technology company is seeking a Manager – Mechanical Engineering to lead its mechanical engineering discipline, serve as the enterprise Mechanical Discipline Authority, and build the technical standards, systems, and team required to support its next phase of growth.

The company is scaling a proprietary process technology across multiple facilities, creating a need for a stronger, more standardized engineering organization capable of delivering repeatable, predictable capital project execution.

Who Will Thrive in This Role

You are an experienced mechanical engineering leader who combines deep technical credibility with the ability to build organizations and systems. You have led mechanical engineering across complex capital projects, understand both static and rotating equipment, and know how to turn engineering knowledge and lessons learned into practical standards that teams can execute consistently.

You are equally comfortable resolving a difficult technical issue, challenging an EPC partner, coaching an emerging technical leader, or establishing the governance needed to scale an engineering organization.

What You’ll Do:

Lead the Mechanical Engineering Function

  • Build, lead, develop, and continuously improve the Mechanical Engineering organization.
  • Hire, coach, mentor, and develop future technical leaders and subject matter experts.
  • Establish clear expectations, accountability, performance measures, and development plans.
  • Develop succession plans and organizational capability roadmaps.
  • Foster a culture of ownership, collaboration, continuous learning, and technical excellence.

Serve as the Enterprise Mechanical Discipline Authority

  • Serve as the highest-level mechanical engineering technical authority within the organization.
  • Provide technical direction and approval for critical mechanical design and equipment decisions.
  • Lead the resolution of complex technical issues affecting projects, operations, reliability, and technology development.
  • Establish and maintain mechanical engineering standards, specifications, and best practices.
  • Drive consistency in mechanical engineering decisions across projects and facilities.

Build Engineering Systems and Standards

Establish repeatable engineering systems that improve quality, efficiency, predictability, and scalability, including:

  • Mechanical engineering standards and design criteria.
  • Equipment specifications and datasheet templates.
  • Engineering workflows and technical procedures.
  • Design and technical review processes.
  • Equipment selection guidelines.
  • Mechanical design tools and reusable templates.
  • Lessons-learned systems and knowledge repositories.

Capture and institutionalize engineering knowledge to support future facility deployments, technology replication, and potential licensing opportunities.

Support Capital Project Execution

  • Provide technical oversight and direction to Mechanical Discipline Leads assigned to capital projects.
  • Ensure project teams have appropriate mechanical engineering resources and technical support.
  • Guide mechanical engineering activities through FEL, FEED, detailed design, construction, commissioning, and startup.
  • Review and approve critical engineering deliverables prepared by EPC contractors, engineering consultants, and equipment vendors.
  • Ensure mechanical deliverables meet company requirements for safety, quality, operability, maintainability, and reliability.

Manage Engineering Partners

  • Develop productive relationships with EPC firms, engineering contractors, equipment suppliers, and strategic vendors.
  • Establish clear technical expectations and performance measures for external partners.
  • Hold contractors accountable for safety, quality, schedule, scope, and technical performance.
  • Support contractor and vendor selection, evaluation, and ongoing performance management.

Drive Standardization and Technology Replication

  • Identify opportunities to standardize mechanical designs across future facilities.
  • Develop reusable engineering solutions, specifications, and equipment standards.
  • Support modularization and replication of proven plant designs.
  • Reduce engineering effort, rework, and project risk through increased standardization.
  • Support development of engineering documentation required for future technology deployment and licensing opportunities.
