THE OPPORTUNITY

IN DEMAND Recruitment & Consulting Inc. is currently seeking a QUALITY CONTROL ENGINEER – AUTOMOTIVE / PRECISION METALS for our client, a leading organization operating within the metal injection molding (MIM) and precision powder metal manufacturing industry.

This is a key role reporting directly to the Director of Quality, responsible for ensuring compliance with IATF 16949, customer requirements, and internal quality standards within a high-volume, tight-tolerance manufacturing environment.

The successful candidate will play a critical role in customer quality, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement, supporting complex metal component production for automotive and industrial applications.


POSITION OVERVIEW

The Quality Control Engineer serves as a core technical quality resource, supporting day-to-day manufacturing operations while ensuring product quality, process stability, and customer satisfaction.

This role requires strong expertise in engineering drawings, GD&T, and inspection processes, along with the ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced production environment.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Quality Systems & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with IATF 16949 and ISO-based quality systems
  • Maintain and support quality standards, procedures, and documentation
  • Monitor quality metrics and drive corrective actions

Customer Quality & Issue Resolution

  • Lead or support customer complaint investigations
  • Perform root cause analysis (8D, 5-Why) and implement corrective actions
  • Act as a key point of contact for customer quality concerns

Manufacturing & Inspection Support

  • Interpret and validate engineering drawings and GD&T requirements (must-have)
  • Support inspection processes including use of CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machines)
  • Ensure product conformance within tight tolerances and complex geometries
  • Work closely with production teams to resolve quality issues on the floor

Continuous Improvement

  • Drive process improvements to reduce defects and improve capability
  • Utilize statistical tools and data analysis to support decision-making
  • Support Lean and continuous improvement initiatives

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with engineering, production, and quality teams
  • Support APQP, PPAP, PFMEA, and Control Plan development
  • Contribute to new product launches and process optimization

QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, or related field preferred
    (Equivalent experience will be considered for strong candidates)
  • Experience within automotive or high-volume manufacturing environments
  • Background in metal injection molding (MIM), powder metals, precision machining, or similar metal component manufacturing strongly preferred

Technical Expertise

Strong working knowledge of:

  • IATF 16949 or ISO-based quality systems
  • GD&T and engineering drawing interpretation (must-have)
  • CMM inspection processes – preferred
  • PPAP, Control Plans, PFMEA
  • 8D & 5-Why methodologies
  • Statistical analysis tools / software

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be eligible to work in the U.S.
    (No OPT or visa transfer available due to defense-related product work)
  • Preference for candidates located in or with ties to WI / IL / MN region
