ROTATING EQUIPMENT RELIABILITY ENGINEER

IN DEMAND Recruitment & Consulting Inc. is currently seeking a Rotating Equipment Reliability Engineer for our client, a leading refinery operation within a complex industrial and energy infrastructure environment. This is a highly technical reliability engineering role focused on improving rotating equipment performance, reducing failures, and driving mechanical integrity across refinery operations.

This opportunity is ideal for a hands-on mechanical reliability professional with strong troubleshooting capability, refinery or petrochemical experience, and a passion for improving equipment uptime, reliability, and operational safety.


POSITION OVERVIEW

Reporting into refinery reliability leadership, the Rotating Equipment Reliability Engineer is responsible for supporting the reliability, operability, and mechanical integrity of critical rotating equipment across the refinery.

This role partners closely with Machinery Inspectors, Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, and external vendors to troubleshoot failures, develop reliability strategies, support turnarounds, and execute both short- and long-term equipment improvement initiatives.

The successful candidate will serve as a key technical resource for rotating equipment reliability and maintenance optimization while supporting refinery-wide safety, environmental, and operational performance objectives.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Reliability & Mechanical Integrity

  • Support refinery reliability initiatives focused on rotating equipment performance, uptime, and mechanical integrity
  • Drive reduction of Loss of Primary Containment (LOPC) incidents and operational risk related to machinery systems
  • Develop and implement bad actor strategies, repair plans, and long-term reliability improvements
  • Support preventative and predictive maintenance initiatives across rotating equipment assets

Troubleshooting & Failure Analysis

  • Provide day-to-day troubleshooting support for rotating equipment issues
  • Assist Machinery Inspectors and Operations teams in diagnosing equipment failures and recommending corrective actions
  • Lead and participate in Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) investigations to eliminate recurring failures
  • Monitor equipment performance trends and identify opportunities for reliability improvement

Rotating Equipment Support

  • Support maintenance and reliability activities related to:
    • Pumps
    • Compressors
    • Steam turbines
    • Gearboxes
    • Fans and blowers
    • Mechanical seals
    • Lubrication systems
  • Evaluate machinery performance including vibration analysis, hydraulic analysis, and equipment efficiency

Turnarounds, Projects & Vendor Coordination

  • Support turnaround planning and execution activities related to rotating equipment
  • Develop equipment scopes, repair strategies, and reliability improvement recommendations
  • Provide technical oversight and coordination with external repair vendors and machine shops
  • Support capital and reliability projects through execution and commissioning

Engineering, Compliance & Process Safety

  • Initiate and support Management of Change (MOC) processes for rotating equipment modifications
  • Review and improve operating and maintenance procedures related to rotating equipment systems
  • Ensure compliance with refinery engineering standards and applicable industry codes including API, ANSI, and ASME
  • Support refinery environmental, process safety, and mechanical integrity programs

Monitoring & Condition-Based Reliability

  • Utilize machinery condition monitoring and diagnostic tools including:
    • Bentley Nevada System 1
    • SKF systems
    • Windrock
    • Vibration monitoring technologies
  • Support development of predictive maintenance and condition monitoring strategies

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Minimum 3 years of experience supporting rotating equipment reliability within:
    • Refining
    • Petrochemical
    • Chemical processing
    • Heavy industrial environments
  • Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis capability
  • Experience supporting rotating equipment maintenance and repair activities
  • Working knowledge of:
    • API
    • ANSI
    • ASME standards

Technical Experience

  • Experience with:
    • Pumps and compressors
    • Steam turbines
    • Mechanical seals
    • Lubrication systems
    • Vibration analysis
    • Hydraulic performance analysis
  • Understanding of machinery monitoring and protection systems
  • Familiarity with low-voltage instrumentation and machinery control systems
  • Experience with condition monitoring and predictive maintenance technologies

Additional Requirements

  • Willingness to support adjusted schedules during turnarounds, outages, and major maintenance events
  • Participation in refinery on-call rotation and off-hours support as required

COMPENSATION

Competitive compensation package with a salary range of:

$88,424 – $156,910

Compensation will reflect overall experience, technical capability, education, and alignment with the scope of the role.
