IN DEMAND Recruitment & Consulting Inc. is currently seeking a Senior Rotating Equipment Reliability Engineer for our client, a leading refinery operation within a complex industrial and energy infrastructure environment. This is a senior-level technical reliability role focused on ensuring the long-term reliability, operability, and mechanical integrity of critical refinery rotating equipment.
This opportunity is ideal for a highly experienced refinery or petrochemical reliability professional with deep rotating equipment expertise, strong troubleshooting capability, and a proven track record of improving machinery performance, reducing failures, and driving reliability strategy across large industrial facilities.
POSITION OVERVIEW
Reporting into refinery reliability leadership, the Senior Rotating Equipment Reliability Engineer serves as a key technical authority responsible for supporting refinery-wide rotating equipment reliability and mechanical integrity initiatives.
This role partners closely with Machinery Inspectors, Maintenance, Operations, Engineering, and external repair vendors to troubleshoot failures, lead reliability investigations, support turnaround execution, and develop both short- and long-term reliability strategies for critical rotating assets.
The successful candidate will play a major role in improving equipment uptime, reducing Loss of Primary Containment (LOPC) incidents, minimizing operational risk, and driving continuous improvement across refinery mechanical systems.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Reliability & Mechanical Integrity Leadership
- Drive refinery rotating equipment reliability and mechanical integrity initiatives across the facility
- Champion a Goal Zero safety culture focused on reducing LOPC incidents and operational risk
- Develop and implement long-term reliability strategies, repair plans, and bad actor elimination initiatives
- Support preventative, predictive, and condition-based maintenance strategies across rotating equipment systems
Troubleshooting & Root Cause Analysis
- Provide advanced troubleshooting support for refinery rotating equipment issues
- Partner with Machinery Inspectors and Operations teams to diagnose failures and implement corrective actions
- Lead and participate in Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) and risk investigations to eliminate recurring equipment failures
- Evaluate machinery performance trends and identify opportunities for reliability improvement
Rotating Equipment Technical Expertise
- Support reliability and maintenance activities involving:
- Steam turbines
- Centrifugal and positive displacement pumps
- Compressors
- Gearboxes
- Fans and blowers
- Mechanical seals
- Lubrication systems
- Analyze machinery performance including:
- Vibration analysis
- Hydraulic analysis
- Compressor and pump efficiency evaluations
- Support machinery monitoring and protection systems associated with rotating equipment assets
Turnarounds, Projects & Vendor Oversight
- Support turnaround planning, scope development, and execution activities related to rotating equipment
- Provide technical oversight and direction to external repair vendors and machine shops
- Support reliability-driven capital projects and equipment upgrades
- Develop machinery repair scopes, reliability recommendations, and engineering solutions aligned with refinery operational goals
Engineering Compliance & Process Safety
- Initiate and support Management of Change (MOC) activities related to rotating equipment modifications
- Review and improve maintenance and operating procedures associated with rotating equipment systems
- Ensure compliance with applicable refinery standards and industry codes including:
- API
- ANSI
- ASME
- Support refinery process safety, environmental, and mechanical integrity programs
Monitoring & Predictive Technologies
- Utilize condition monitoring and predictive maintenance technologies including:
- Bentley Nevada System 1
- SKF systems
- Windrock
- Vibration monitoring technologies
- Support development and enhancement of refinery predictive maintenance and machinery health programs
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Minimum 10 years of experience supporting rotating equipment reliability within:
- Refining
- Petrochemical
- Chemical processing
- Heavy industrial environments
- Strong expertise in rotating equipment troubleshooting, repair, and reliability engineering
- Experience leading RCFA investigations and bad actor elimination initiatives
- Strong understanding of mechanical integrity and refinery reliability best practices
- Working knowledge of:
- API
- ANSI
- ASME standards
Technical Experience
- Deep technical experience with:
- Steam turbines
- Pumps and compressors
- Mechanical seals
- Lubrication systems
- Vibration monitoring and analysis
- Machinery protection systems
- Understanding of instrumentation and low-voltage systems associated with machinery monitoring
- Experience utilizing condition monitoring and predictive maintenance systems
Additional Requirements
- Willingness to support adjusted schedules during turnarounds, outages, and major maintenance events
- Participation in refinery on-call Mechanical Team rotation and off-hours operational support as required

COMPENSATION
Competitive compensation package with a salary range of:
$156,000 – $190,000
Compensation will reflect overall experience, technical capability, education, and alignment with the scope of the role.
