The Opportunity

A nationally recognized engineering and infrastructure firm is looking for a Senior Structural / Transmission Line Engineer to lead complex transmission design projects across North America.

This is a highly technical, senior-level opportunity supporting major 345kV to 765kV rebuilds, greenfield transmission lines, and emerging HVDC programs. You will take ownership of complex engineering scopes, provide technical leadership to project teams, mentor developing engineers, and support client relationships and business development activities.

The role is well suited to an experienced transmission engineer who wants meaningful technical ownership, exposure to large-scale grid modernization projects, and the opportunity to influence engineering standards and best practices.

What You Will Do

  • Lead the design and analysis of large-scale overhead transmission line projects.
  • Deliver complex rebuild and greenfield scopes involving 345kV, 500kV, 765kV, and HVDC systems.
  • Perform and oversee engineering calculations in accordance with applicable codes, standards, and quality requirements.
  • Complete structural design of transmission steel structures and foundations using 3D analysis and design software.
  • Develop material and equipment recommendations.
  • Manage engineering scope, budget, schedule, and technical deliverables.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering and project teams.
  • Serve as the engineer in responsible charge on assigned projects.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior and intermediate engineers.
  • Maintain and improve departmental design guides, standards, and quality processes.
  • Build strong client relationships and contribute to proposals, pursuits, and business development.
  • Support succession planning, performance management, and career development within the team.

What You Bring

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of five years of directly related transmission line engineering experience.
  • Strong proficiency with PLS-CADD.
  • Experience designing overhead transmission lines ranging from 69kV to 500kV or higher.
  • Knowledge of utility-scale electrical transmission systems.
  • Ability to work independently on technically complex assignments.
  • Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle record review.

Preferred

  • Professional Engineer designation.
  • Experience with PLS-POLE.
  • Background supporting HVDC or 765kV transmission projects.
  • Structural design experience involving steel, concrete, and foundations.
  • Experience using 3D structural analysis and design software.
  • Client-facing experience and exposure to business development.
  • Familiarity with NESC requirements and applicable ASCE and IEEE standards.

Work Arrangement

The role is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement following a 90-day onboarding period.

Compensation

Base salary will depend on location, experience, and qualifications.

  • Colorado: $148,852–$248,578
  • Illinois: $148,852–$248,578
  • Massachusetts: $162,384–$271,176
  • Minnesota: $142,086–$237,279
  • California: $148,852–$293,774

Additional compensation may include a performance bonus and participation in the company’s employee stock ownership plan.
