IN DEMAND Recruitment & Consulting Inc. is currently assisting our client in their search for an OPERATIONS SHIFT SUPERVISOR (Chemical Manufacturing) for their manufacturing facility.

Overview

Our client is seeking an experienced Operations Shift Supervisor to provide frontline leadership within a continuous chemical manufacturing operation. This role is responsible for leading hourly operations personnel while ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the production unit. You will play a key role in driving operational excellence by improving safety, production, quality, environmental compliance, reliability, and employee engagement.

What You’ll Do

As the Operations Shift Supervisor, you will provide day-to-day leadership for plant operations while ensuring production, safety, quality, and reliability objectives are consistently achieved.

You will:

  • Lead and develop hourly operating personnel within a 24/7 continuous manufacturing environment.
  • Promote a strong culture of safety, process safety, and environmental compliance.
  • Coordinate daily production activities to maximize operational efficiency while maintaining safe operating conditions.
  • Communicate production priorities, operational expectations, and plant objectives to shift teams.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop operators through training, performance feedback, and ongoing leadership.
  • Partner with Maintenance, Engineering, Reliability, Laboratory, and EHS teams to resolve operational issues and improve plant performance.
  • Lead shift response during process upsets, abnormal operating conditions, and emergency situations.
  • Support Management of Change (MOC), incident investigations, root cause analysis, and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Ensure compliance with operating procedures, regulatory requirements, and company policies.
  • Utilize SAP and other plant systems to support operations, reporting, and documentation.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, reliability, productivity, quality, and cost optimization.
  • Foster a positive, accountable, and team-oriented work environment built on respect and collaboration.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline preferred.
  • Approximately 10 years of manufacturing or industrial operations experience within chemical manufacturing, minerals processing, refining, or another continuous process industry.
  • Previous supervisory, shift leadership, or operations leadership experience.
  • Strong understanding of chemical manufacturing operations, process safety, and environmental compliance.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM) principles and safe work practices.
  • Experience leading hourly operations personnel within a 24/7 manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of production operations, quality systems, plant reliability, and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Experience using SAP or similar ERP/CMMS systems.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, communication, conflict resolution, and team-building skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to make sound decisions during process upsets and emergency situations.
