IN DEMAND Recruitment & Consulting Inc. is currently assisting our client in their search for a SAFETY SUPERINTENDENT (Chemical Manufacturing) for their manufacturing facility.

Overview

Our client is seeking an experienced Safety Superintendent to lead the site’s Safety, Health, Security, and Emergency Response programs within a large continuous chemical manufacturing operation. This highly visible leadership role partners closely with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, and Environmental teams to strengthen the site’s safety culture while ensuring compliance with OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM), environmental regulations, and corporate safety standards.

What You’ll Do

As the Safety Superintendent, you will provide strategic and operational leadership for all site safety, health, security, and emergency response initiatives while supporting a world-class safety culture.

You will:

  • Lead the site’s Safety, Health, Security, and Emergency Response programs across all manufacturing operations.
  • Champion Process Safety Management (PSM), behavioural safety initiatives, Life Saving Rules, and corporate safety standards.
  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve safety policies, procedures, and management systems.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, state, local, and corporate regulatory requirements.
  • Partner with Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, and leadership teams to identify hazards, conduct risk assessments, and implement risk reduction strategies.
  • Lead incident investigations, root cause analyses, and implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
  • Monitor safety performance metrics, develop KPIs, analyze trends, and provide recommendations to leadership.
  • Coordinate employee and contractor safety training, regulatory compliance training, and emergency response programs.
  • Develop and facilitate emergency response drills, preparedness exercises, and crisis response initiatives.
  • Oversee fire protection systems, respiratory protection programs, breathing air systems, emergency equipment inspections, and industrial hygiene programs.
  • Provide technical expertise related to PPE, respiratory protection, hazardous materials, ergonomics, industrial hygiene, and exposure controls.
  • Support workers’ compensation, return-to-work programs, job hazard analyses, and occupational health initiatives.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, employee engagement, coaching, and continuous safety improvement.
  • Serve as the site’s on-call safety resource during emergencies as required.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Occupational Health, Environmental Science, or a related technical discipline.
  • Minimum five years of progressive safety leadership experience within an industrial manufacturing environment.
  • Previous experience within chemical manufacturing, petrochemical, refining, or another OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM) environment is strongly preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of OSHA regulations, Process Safety Management (PSM), industrial hygiene, emergency response, hazardous materials management, ergonomics, workers’ compensation, and incident investigation methodologies.
  • Experience developing and implementing site-wide safety management systems and emergency response programs.
  • Strong knowledge of behavioural safety, hazard recognition, risk assessments, and continuous improvement.
  • Experience analyzing safety performance data, developing KPIs, and presenting recommendations to all levels of the organization.
  • Working knowledge of respiratory protection, PPE selection, chemical protective equipment, and industrial exposure controls.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work in an industrial manufacturing environment, including climbing ladders, working at heights, and conducting field safety observations.
  • Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation and respond to emergency situations as required.
