CONSTRUCTION SITE LEAD, EDMONTON, AB, CANADA – #5880

THE OPPORTUNITY

Our client is seeking an experienced, hands-on Construction Site Lead / Senior Construction Technician to work alongside the Construction Manager and serve as a trusted #2 in the field.

This is a hands-on construction role, with approximately 80–90% of the position spent working on the tools. The successful candidate will work alongside the crew while also providing day-to-day leadership and direction to one or two helpers.

The ideal candidate is someone who knows how to get the work done. They can take ownership of a site when required, troubleshoot problems in the field, keep a small crew productive, and use good judgment to determine when to solve an issue independently and when to call the Construction Manager for advice.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work directly alongside the Construction Manager on active construction projects.
  • Spend approximately 80–90% of the role performing hands-on construction work.
  • Serve as the Construction Manager’s #2 in the field and take responsibility for a site when required.
  • Lead, supervise, and work alongside a small crew, typically consisting of one or two helpers.
  • Provide clear day-to-day direction while ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.
  • Perform a variety of hands-on construction work, including carpentry, finish carpentry, landscaping, and related site work.
  • Read and interpret drawings, plans, specifications, measurements, and project requirements.
  • Identify and troubleshoot construction issues as they arise.
  • Independently resolve routine field problems while recognizing when an issue should be escalated to the Construction Manager.
  • Monitor workmanship and address deficiencies promptly.
  • Ensure tools, equipment, and materials are used safely and efficiently.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe job site.
  • Follow and reinforce company safety procedures and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Communicate site progress, challenges, material requirements, and issues to the Construction Manager.
  • Take ownership of keeping the work and crew moving when the Construction Manager is working elsewhere.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum 3–4 years of hands-on experience in carpentry, landscaping, finish carpentry, or a combination of these areas.
  • Strong practical construction skills and confidence working with tools and equipment.
  • Experience performing skilled construction work independently.
  • Previous experience leading, supervising, or providing direction to a small crew is preferred.
  • Comfortable being a working lead — supervising and providing direction while actively working alongside the crew.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, plans, measurements, and specifications.
  • Strong practical problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Sound judgment and the ability to determine which issues can be resolved independently and which require input from the Construction Manager.
  • Strong understanding of construction safety practices and job-site requirements.
  • Reliable, accountable, organized, and able to take ownership of assigned work.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with the Construction Manager, crew members, subcontractors, and other site personnel.
  • Valid driver’s licence and ability to travel to project sites as required.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

The ideal candidate brings at least 3–4 years of hands-on carpentry, landscaping, finish carpentry, or related construction experience and genuinely enjoys working on the tools.

This person is a doer first and a supervisor second. They lead by example, work alongside the crew, solve problems, and keep the job moving.

The Construction Manager will handle the broader project coordination. This individual needs to be someone the Construction Manager can confidently leave in charge of a site with one or two helpers and know that the work will get done properly.

They are practical, dependable, mechanically inclined, and confident making day-to-day decisions in the field — while having the experience and judgment to know when to ask for advice.

Qualified and interested applicants are encouraged to apply today in confidence by sending their resume as an MS Word document to info@indemand.ca.
